A group of around 15 Staines Town supporters along with First Team players Andre Scarlett and Mazin Ahmad and a support crew will be taking part in The London Football Ground Cycle Ride on Sunday 6th June. The sponsored cycle will raise money for lots of different charities and will visit eleven of the Capital’s soccer stadiums.
Starting at Selhurst Park the home of, Crystal Palace at 10am. The ride will then visit Millwall, Charlton, West Ham, Leyton Orient, Tottenham, Arsenal, Queen Park Rangers, Chelsea, Fulham and finishing at Griffin Park, Brentford at approx 7pm. The total distance cycled will be 54 miles. Organiser Ian Byers said “this is intended to be a Fun Cycle, and whilst I appreciate that all cyclists will wish to go at their own pace, the intention is that all riders will gather at each of the ground on route for a team photograph”, “it should be a lot of fun and will give everyone the opportunity to visit the football grounds, whilst raising money for good causes”
The Bobby Moore Fund which was set up in 1993 by Stephanie Moore MBE, in partnership with Cancer Research UK, in memory of Stephanie’s late husband, footballer Bobby Moore who sadly died from bowel cancer, aged just 51. “I recently lost my own father to bowel Cancer” said Ian and last year I was lucky enough to meet with Stephanie and I was very inspired by her and the work of the Bobby Moore Fund, which raises money for research into bowel cancer and also public awareness of the disease. There will be a charge of £12 per participant. This cost will include transporting the cyclist and their bike from Wheatsheaf Park to Selhurst Park and back to Wheatsheaf Park from Griffin Park.
