Makes one wonder how they played football on the site previously without falling onto all those potholes...

Potholes can be repaired and improved. The current state of the site (lying unused instead of being played on) will cost thousands to bring back into use, when it could have been raising money for the club now.

It wasn't a case of leaving the site to become overgrown. The site is currently nowhere near a standard required for football and even for holding fund raising activities like boot fairs (believe me, this is a line of questioning I've been actively pursuing). It's full of potholes and the club would struggle to get a safety certificate to even open it up to the public.

Levelling the site is on the list of first jobs to accomplish and is in the plan. But it's not cheap, hence being part of the fund raising objectives.

Lets get this right. Maidstone Council did not sell London Road without a new home to go to. Without Maidstone Council, the club would not have a town centre site; a town centre site with an existing football pitch that has been allowed to become overgrown by the football club. They could have allowed reserves and youth teams to play there while slowly building a basic stadium, but chose not to. Maidstone fans deserve better than the owners they have had.

Lets get this right - the council did not provide the land at very favourable rates. It was taken on lease from the MOD. It was not owned by the council.
The club worked very hard to obtain planning permission and because the MOD changes it mind at the last minute regarding payment terms for the lease, the council lent money to the club to pay the lease.

In fairness, you cannot blame local politicians for the failure of Maidstone United to go home. The local council provided a town centre site on very favourable terms. And it was not politicians who sold the old ground to finance a few years in division four. Having said that, the virtual stadium is a breath of fresh thinking, at a club bereft of good ideas. I will buy a seat from time to time, but it still needs someone with that vision thing to bring the Stones home.
